Evan McHenry

Through their antidisciplinary and conceptually research driven practice, Evan McHenry (b. 1998; Minneapolis, MN) investigates the unjust hierarchies present in society and the negative impacts they impose on interconnected social and ecological domains. Drawing on the material sensibilities of Arte Povera, Anarchitecture, and the Gutai, as well as global philosophical and political theory, McHenry utilizes contemporary and anachronistic methods to examine themes of entropy and ephemerality, materiality and incorporeality, and the histories of political movements to engender environments that challenge preconceived notions and propose questions, rather than provide answers. This intellectual engagement serves as an invitation for political action outside of a white wall environment. In addition to their fine arts practice, they maintain a literary practice that includes zine making and poetry, with their work featured in the 2023 Minnesota Center for Book Arts New Editions showcase. When not creating, you can probably find them in a sweaty basement moshing with their friends, riding bikes, reading, or next to /in a creek.
